Rename operation
A Shipping Rate Rename operation changes only the text customers see for a shipping rate title at checkout. For example, you can rename your Standard Shipping to Free Shipping as a display label if the price is $0.
When to use it
Section titled “When to use it”Use a rename operation when you want to:
- use a clearer name for a shipping rate, such as
Standard ShippingtoFree Shipping - show shipping rate names in the customer’s language
The form
Section titled “The form”
The operation form includes:
- Operation Name: identifies the operation in the app; customers do not see it.
- Enabled Status: controls whether the operation will execute. A disabled operation is saved but does will run.
- Rate Renames: This section controls shipping rates to be renamed, and what values they’ll be renamed to.
- Conditions: control when the operation applies.
Renaming a rate
Section titled “Renaming a rate”Enter the shipping rate name you wish to rename into the Rate Name input and click the Add Rate Rename button. The rate name will only match if it’s spelled exactly, including capitalization and spaces.
Adding a shipping rate here provides a Rename Value input to define it’s new name. If your plan supports it, you can enter renames or multiple languages.
Add translations
Section titled “Add translations”Click “Add Translation” to add multiple translations for the current shipping rate, entering the language specific rename value for supported locale. Checkout Commander does not translate automatically - you must enter the desired translations yourself.
Checkout first uses a translation matching the full customer locale, such as fr-CA, and then checks for a language-only translation, such as fr. If neither matches, the original shipping rate name remains unchanged; checkout does not fall back to the value entered for Primary Locale. See Locale priority for the selection order.
Examples
Section titled “Examples”Rename based on price
Section titled “Rename based on price”Rename “Standard Shipping” to “Free Shipping” as Rate Name and Free Shipping as the Renamed Value. Customers see Free Shipping. The operation does not make shipping free.
This example requires that a Condition checks that the Standard Shipping rate exists and has a price of $0. This uses collection subject filtering - read more about filtering.
- Rate Name:
Standard Shipping - Locale: Your shop’s default locale
- Renamed Values:
Free Shipping - Condition Type:

Add locale-specific labels
Section titled “Add locale-specific labels”If the shop sells to France and Canada and would like custom translations per region, add a translation with two separate locales and translations for each region.
| Locale | Renamed Value |
|---|---|
French (fr) |
Livraison standard |
French (Canada) (fr-CA) |
Expédition standard |
An fr-CA customer sees the French (Canada) value, all other french customers will see the French value, and all other customers will see the original shipping rate name.
